Three Psalms for Prayer
The book of Psalms is a songbook — so many of the church’s songs of worship have come from the Psalms. It is also a prayerbook; a collection of prayers that people use as a way of speaking to (and with) God, and hearing from Him too. With so many different types of psalms available, there is no circumstance, feeling or experience that has not already been encapsulated in a psalm that we cannot also use as a prayer with which to communicate with God. Over the next three weeks, using one psalm per week, we will be praying through these psalms together as a group, starting with the prayers provided but also adding your own.
A different type of psalm has been chosen for each week:
1. A psalm of confession
2. A psalm of repentance
3. A psalm of praise
Each psalm below has been formatted to be slowly read through. A member of the group reads the verses aloud, followed by the commentary notes and the prayer. There is then space for people to offer their own prayers. Then (by the same person or taking turns) the next set of verses, commentary and prayer is read aloud, and so on through the psalm to the end.
