We are currently seeking expressions of interest for these roles:

Senior Pastor
Are you called to lead a large local-global missional church?

[Acknowledgement of sovereign God, provider of all, whose spirit has guided past leadership and will direct future leadership]

South West Baptist Church (SWBC) is a team-led, presence-based church with a long history of engaging communities locally and globally, based in Christchurch, New Zealand. We are seeking a new full-time Senior Pastor, called by God, as a ‘shepherd’ leader in SWBC’s vision:

“To be a redemptive community,
sharing the love of Christ in the world, by word, sign and deed;
helping people become lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.”

The Senior Pastor will role model the vision of SWBC as a whole-of-life commitment and be, first of all, a follower of Jesus and active discipler of others. You will have robust biblical theology, including God’s missional bias to the poor and marginalised, and will facilitate a movement toward redemptive communities everywhere for everyone; growing in relationship with God, ourselves, others and the world.

You will already be known as a leader of leaders and an outstanding communicator, who has worked in and with teams, handling diversity and leading through change toward shared missional action. You will honour our commitment to Te Tiriti partnership with Māori and encourage authentic journeys of faithfully following Jesus for Māori and others of diverse cultures.

An appointment decision may be made at any time for the right person, at which time this vacancy will be removed. Briefly describe your sense of call to this role together with a summary of relevant experience and skills (CV). Sharing your personal response to the following foundational verses of SWBC is appreciated, where able:

Luke 4:14-19, Acts 1:8, Acts 2:42-47, Philippians 2:5-8, Colossians 1: 15-20

Learning & Development Team Member

South West Baptist Church’s Learning & Development Team (L&D Team) was established in 2020 to support ongoing learning, training and culture change in our church. A long history of innovation and prophetic action, combined with the ongoing decline of mainstream churches in the global north, significant cultural changes, and increasing awareness of systemic, cultural and structural bias in organisations, means that being and becoming a learning organisation is essential for our church.

The Team
Functionally, the L&D Team is a service unit for the entire church, able to work across all areas, engaging both congregation members and staff. We operate in the background, but at the leading edge of strategic initiatives, under the direction of the SWBC senior leadership. The team is guided by change-making, movement-building and innovation-design principles, leading to a distinctly collaborative approach and flat team structure.

Areas of Work
As well supporting the church to discuss and reflect on our own praxis, we also underpin theological, discipleship and leadership training in pursuit of missional engagement in the world in response to movements of the Holy Spirit.

The Learning & Development Team is looking for an additional Team Member to increase the capacity and diversity of the Team.
