Women at Risk

For women facing difficult issues such as family violence, stressful situations or circumstances within family or other relationships, they are welcome to connect with Daphne or Karen at Project Esther.

Project Esther Charitable Trust has been working with women and their families for almost two decades. We offer a multifaceted range of activities and support.

For many years we have assisted inmates at the Christchurch Women’s Prison. We also support women re-integrating into the community post prison.

Te Whare Atawhai is our emergency support accommodation offering short term relief from six weeks to six months. Women in situations of difficulty or crisis use the house as they transition to longer term accommodation. Women using this service have included those who have recently immigrated, are moving out of a mental health service or prison, are facing debt or who are leaving difficult relationships. There is a Family Worker attached to this service.

Project Esther has a single mums’ support service offering a variety of options including visits, support groups, parenting course, internet access and use of computer and printer.

From time to time, Project Esther also offers short term help groups which focus on healing from childhood sexual abuse and women managing anger.

We welcome referrals which come from a variety of sources including Plunket, pre-schools, school principals, doctors, counsellors, CYFs and the Police.

We operate from 248 Lyttleton Street and are a community ministry of South West Baptist Church.
