SWBC Newsletter December 10 & 17

A Christmas party – and you’re invited!

DECEMBER 10 & 17

Kia ora and welcome,

Christmas is coming and this year that includes a new event we’re part of  – Christmas for the City. At the moment we have 175 volunteers currently signed up, over 200 performers across four stages, 27 churches on board, 24 food trucks attending and just under 600 food vouchers sponsored and being distributed!

We asked Chuck Spong, who started a similar event 10 years ago in the United States to share a few words. Based on Ephesians 3:14-21, he said – “Much like preparation for a wedding or a big party (and that’s what this is!), you get to a certain point when you’ve done all you can do, and you need to switch gears and be in the moment. Our prayer for you is that you will be able to do just that, that each of you would experience the deep love of Jesus in powerful ways and that your city would be transformed by that love! When we do that, God does “far more abundantly than all that we ask or thing according to HIS power at work within us.” God bless you guys. Know that a whole band of believers and community members in the northwest corner of North Carolina are praying diligently for you and wildly cheering you on!”

There is still room to be part of it and there are spaces we need help with. See www.christmasforthecity.org.nz for more information. Please like, share and link the Facebook page and pick up some flyers to invite people to come! Let’s keep praying that Christ will be made know through it all.

In light of this big event we will be having one morning gathering the following day. Over the next two weeks, our Sunday gatherings are:

Sunday December 17 – 10.00am and 7.00pm
Sunday December 24 – 5.00pm, 7.00pm, 9.00pm and 11.00pm.

GLOBAL MISSION‘You have shattered the yoke
that burdens them,
the bar across their shoulders,
the rod of their oppressor.
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be
on his shoulders.’
-Isaiah 9

As we prepare for Christmas, please pray for our people overseas who are also preparing to share the good news of this season with those around them.

Pray that they would find ways to share the hope of Christmas and that their friends and communities would hear and receive the good news this Christmas.

Pray that our people would find the time and space to celebrate Christmas meaningfully in places where Jesus is not known.
