Global – it’s in our DNA

Spring – Yeah!

Spring has officially arrived. This is probably the time of year I enjoy the most – when we can see hints of new life, warmer days and longer evenings. As we sense the new season in weather, I’d like to explain that the season we sense we are in right now as a church is one of encouragement. God is bringing new life in many different ways and the warmth of God’s presence into our church, groups and lives. Be encouraged.

At the moment we are working on our annual Baptist statistics for the year. They always want to know how the past year has gone. Counting up we have over 50 different ministries regularly running with enormous connections that support people, young and old, all over the city. The Alpha courses, baptisms, young adult connections and new ventures like Christmas for the City are encouraging. Thank you for all the parts you play in the life of our church. Whether you’re part of our ministries or life groups, neighbourhoods or structures.  Each week I am very grateful to the team who put out the chairs, welcome people, make our gatherings flow and lead our children. It all adds up and for your part – THANK YOU!

Next weekend our Global Week begins with the Global Night Market on Saturday September 9 and Ants speaking on September 10. Please invite friends and neighbours to enjoy the Night Market. It’s a great evening.

Please pray for the people in the rural areas of China who are living in poverty despite the economic growth of the cities. In China’s vast inland provinces, many people still live from season to season and struggle to provide for their families. Many of these areas, like Tibet and Xinjiang, also face political oppression which brings more barriers to people getting out of poverty.Pray for the good news of Jesus to reach to all parts of China – even those traditionally isolated because of ethnicity or geography.

Pray for justice for those who have been struggling for political and religious freedom.

Pray that their voices would be heard and that those imprisoned for their faith or beliefs would have comfort and hope.

Pray that the church in China would be a strong and unified voice that would demonstrate to the world the values of the Kingdom of God.
